Frequently asked questions

  1. How many Radiology facilities do you have in the UK?
    Nuffield Diagnostics has 30 Radiology departments in England and 1 in Scotland.

  2. How many Pathology facilities do you have in the UK?
    Nuffield Diagnostics currently has 21 Pathology departments. However by the end of 2007 our coverage will extend to most of our existing 31 hospital sites.

  3. Do you currently provide diagnostic services to the NHS?
    Nuffield Hospitals has provided a range of healthcare services to the NHS for the past 50 years, including diagnostics. We currently contract directly with PCTs, GPs and acute Trusts to provide a range of diagnostic tests or scans.

  4. Do you have read and reporting services for diagnostics?
    Nuffield Diagnostics currently work with 450 Radiologists and 100 Pathologists in the UK. These are all UK-based Consultants with considerable expertise and all are known to local referring clinicians.

  5. What diagnostic scanning can you offer at your locations?
    We can offer MRI, CT, X-ray, Mammography, Ultrasound and DEXA (Bone Densitometry) scanning.

  6. Are you making any investment in diagnostics?
    Nuffield Diagnostics is investing £50 million in 2007 and 2008. £10 million of this investment will cover PACS/RIS IT infrastructure in Radiology and Clinisys IT infrastructure for Pathology. We will be spending £40 million on equipment upgrade and technology refresh in Radiology and Pathology and investing in industry-leading Imaging technologies, where we are setting up diagnostic centres of excellence.

  7. Do you operate mobile services?
    Nuffield Diagnostics has invested £5 million in five unique mobile MRI facilities. These units not only support our own requirements but are also available to the NHS and other customer groups. We are also considering the mobilisation of the latest multi-slice detector CT systems in a mobile environment. It is also our intention to mobilise ultrasound services using the very latest in mobile ultrasound technology, supported by mobile sonographer staff, able to work out of multiple environments including our own Radiology departments.

  8. Are you Healthcare Commission (HCC) registered?
    Currently Nuffield Diagnostics is not required to register separately with HCC. Our diagnostic services operate from our Nuffield Hospitals, which are registered with HCC.

  9. Can a self-pay patient be referred to your facilities?
    Yes they can. We are introducing a more affordable range of tariffs across all our diagnostic services for self-pay patients. Our aim is to provide affordable access to the highest quality diagnostic service in the UK. All our pricing will include the cost of the test or scan and the report itself. Reporting will be provided by some of the UK’s most qualified Radiologists and Pathologists.
